There are many reasons why you feel may feel stressed. You could be going through a long and painful divorce which is impacting upon your ability to concentrate and focus at
work or you may be caring for your mother, who is poorly and you find it hard to make the time to visit her as often as you would like due to commitments at work. You could even be looking for a way to stop smoking and the thought of giving up your habit causes you intense emotional distress. Whatever your reasons for being stressed, chances are you have heard friends and work colleagues joke and say to you " you're stressed. . . why don't you go and relax?" Your doctor may even advise you to join a yoga class to help you learn how to relax and cope better. Everywhere you look, friends and family are on your case, telling you to slow down and take-time out. Continued exposure to stressful situations has a major impact on your physical and mental health. However, when you are going through a difficult time you often fail to realise just how stressed you are. You just think things are normal without realsing you are stressed-out. Have a look at these seven signs and symptoms and see how many apply to you. They may not all apply to you, but if any of them do, take some time out and practice some form of relaxation exercises to bring your stress levels down. Seven Signs and Symptoms That Indicate You May Be Stressed-Out . You suffer unexplained aches and pains, maybe an old injury resurfaces or you develop back ache. Stress affects all muscles and joints. During the course of your day, as pressure mounts up, your body contracts and starts to store muscular tension, which you may experience as headaches, back pain, neck pain or indigestion. . You find it difficult to concentrate at work. Tasks which previously you could easily do, now take forever you dread going through your pile of work to do just in case you find a report which you keep putting off and the due date is fast approaching. . . . You lack energy. You are constantly tired and fatigued. Stress drains you and makes it harder for you to exercise or do something physical which will boost your energy. . You may feel angry, frustrated and even resentful by the demands placed on you, for instance, you may be caring for an elderly parent and raising a young child at the same time and feel like you don't have enough hands to do everything as well as finding it difficult to express your feelings and or ask for support. . Your heart beats faster and harder, which causes your pulse rate and blood pressure to rise, this sends more blood to your brain and muscles which help you deal with stress. However, if you fail to recognise these symptoms and don't relax, your body is constantly in a state of alert. . You can't rest and have trouble switching your brain off. Your whole body is constantly on overdrive and your brain over-stimulated. This leads to mental fatigue, eye strain and in more serious cases, migraines and even memory loss. . It is like you are stuck in a rut and no matter what, you just don't have the physical energy or mental strength to turn things around. Everyone is different and different people react to stressful situations varies. Over the next few days, I encourage you to take time to observe your thoughts, feelings and behavior and see how your body reacts in different situations.
